The Cheung Chau Bun Festival is a day dedicated to the god Pak Tai, who ward off plague and evil spirits on the island many years ago. It is held on the same day as the Buddha’s birthday.
The place celebrates it with bun contest going up the bun tower, parades, and lots of street food. I didn’t visit on the exact day of the festival as it’s generally too crowded on the ferry. But it’s just as fun to go a few days before and just get a feel of the festivities on the island.
Always love the boats with the blue and green hues.
There are local snacks sold everywhere you go. We literally ate are way around the island from the moment we got off the ferry. This mango mochi was so delicious and still leaves you thinking you just ate something somewhat healthy as it was a big slice of mango inside.
It’s all about the buns! Freshly steamed buns with various flavors are in high demand. You have to line up to get these and they are sold only at a few stores.
There are a few temples on the island. We stopped by Pak Tai Temple to offer our respects.
You can find many different souvenirs sold throughout the island.
It was a super fun day out and we lucked out with pretty amazing weather.
